The Idea
Welcome to Derek Hildreth's personal homepage where you'll find information and links all related to myself. I wanted to create this page so that I could congregate all of my links and personal information into one central place that is easy to find for friends, family and possibly potential employers. On this page, you'll find an about me page, my portfolio, links to various destinations, and a contact area. Everything here is pretty self-explainatory.
About Myself
In a nutshell, I'm a student seeking a B.S. degree in Computer and Electrical Engineering at BYU-Idaho in my Junior year. I'm married to Heather and we have a beautiful baby girl named Qeirstyn who was born in the summer of 2007. When we can find the time, we love to get outdoors and take in the sights and activities like swimming, rapelling, biking, snowboarding, camping, hiking, and much more.
I have what some would call an unhealthy obsession (I would call it a passion) with computers that started back when my Dad picked up our first computer in 1993. So, 15 years later I'm anxious to being a career that will put me in the front seat of emerging technology. I've done pretty much anything that has to do with computers. I've learned what it takes to run a web design business, an on-site technical repair business, software and hardware consulting business, and website hosting business. I have taken it upon myself to become an entrepenuer of sorts and explore each of these areas with my own freelancing business. I've also been a Computer Systems Administrator twice now for two different local companies in the Rexburg, ID area. I havn't been able to keep up on it now that I'm in college and have a baby to raise. I'm just looking forward to a good full-time job where I can support my family the good 'ol fashioned way with lots of hard, honest work.
I strongly support the FOSS movement and use FOSS whenever I possibly can. In the spirit of the FOSS community, I contribute as much as I can back to it by contributing artwork, ideas, tutorials, and I help promote the use of the software.
In the end, this geeky father is pretty much fun loving and enjoys living life to its fullest by learning everything that this life can throw at me (knowledge is power), and being optimistic (if life hands me lemons, I make lemonaid).

Currently, I am seeking a B.S. in Computer and Electrical Engineering at BYU-Idaho in Rexburg as well as any internship opportunities that may come my way. I plan on graduating in December of 2009.
